As many of you may or may not have noticed, there has been a lot of talk on the internet and TV regarding “Intermittent Fasting” in recent years. And for good reason. It is an incredible tool when it comes to losing weight and making it manageable. But many, if not most people think of fasting only as a diet — a way to lose weight, but there is much more to it than that.
How Intermittent Fasting (IF) works
When talking about an IF Routine, you talk about time windows. Periods in which you eat and drink and periods in which you abstain from it.
There are basically endless ways to set up your personal IF Routine, but are the most common one is the 16–8 method (16 hour fast and 8 hour eating window). However there are also these possibilities:
- 23–1 Method (23 hour fast and a 1 hour eating window)
- 20–4 Method (20 hour fast and 4 hour eating window)
- 12–12 Method (12 hour fast and 12 hour eating window)
- 5:2 Method (consuming a “normal” diet for 5 days and then a big reduction for the last 2 days within a given week)
